Even after his untimely death , the late Alexander McQueen still manages to make headlines, particularly in last couple of months. Barely days after the Duchess of Cambridge wowed the world on April 29th 2011 when she walked down the aisle in a breathtaking wedding gown designed by Sarah Burton, who took over the reins of his eponymous label after his passing, the fashion world celebrated his memory and extraordinary contributions to fashion via a retrospective of his creations over his 19 year career, aptly titled “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” at the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Organised by the Costume Institute, the exhibit showcases the iconic designer's fantastical aesthetic and love for the avant garde. The genius of his work (his theatrical, high-concept shoes, left, are just some examples) had put him in the forefront of fashion innovation and “kept him at fashion vanguard”, as the Met’s official website puts it.
