We join the world in mourning the sudden passing of prolific English designer Alexander McQueen, who died yesterday at the age of 40. It's been widely reported in the media that McQueen may have taken his own life.

McQueen is a 4-time winner of the British Designer of the Year Award. He has been nicknamed the “enfant terrible” and “hooligan of English fashion” for his thought-provoking avant garde designs (which are sometimes controversial but always memorable!) and rebellious streak. He kick-started his fashion career at the tender age of 16 by working as an apprentice at Saville Row; before being discovered by fashion doyenne Isabella Blow. Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham, Lady Gaga and Rihanna count as among his famous fans.

According to hellomagazine.co.uk, his death comes days before London Fashion Week kicks off, and shortly before he was due to unveil his latest collection in Paris on March 9.

R.I.P, Mr. McQueen.
