Hello world!

Are you confused by all the advice you hear and see daily on how to "go green"? Do you want to incorporate earth-friendly practices into your life, but don't know where to start? No problem. Here’s a few super simple steps to tackle the daily eco-challenges and make a difference:

1. Ditch bottled water: refill a sassy thermos.

2. Avoid plastic bags and Styrofoam packs, carry your own shopping bags and food containers instead or pop little purchases in your bag.

3. Car-pool.

4. Let your hair air dry for a while before you blow dry: less frizz, less energy consumed.

5. Switch of all electrical items when not in use.

6. Opt for quality over quantity in everything you buy – they will last longer.

7. Limit your consumption of anything packaged in plastic.

And last (but certainly not least),

8. shop online @ T³ for fab pre-loved and vintage garbs!

Yes, we get it…old habits die hard. But you don’t have to be superwomen to save the world because even the smallest changes, when combined with the efforts of others, will make a difference. Our suggestion is to break one habit at a time (we respectfully recommend that you start off with #8!).

We can no longer ignore the warning signs before us. Adopting a green lifestyle is among the most positive, forward-thinking, and personally fulfilling choices that anyone can make; and hopefully this op-ed will inspire you to make everyday a green day.

The TaiTaiTwins urge you to increase your eco-consciousness and participate! A little can go a long way...

It doesn’t take a knock to the head to realize the state of the global economy we’re in. And as much as we consider fashion an absolutely vital part of life, it’s often the clothing budget that gets clamped the quickest. As the recession hits our pockets (with our net worths halved and current accounts balances getting shy – you know what we’re talking about ladies!!), many people are adjusting the way they look at fashion and consumerism. In particular, “reuse” has been gaining prominence, even among the upscale hipster crowd.

Does “reusing” truly make a difference to the planet? You bet your organic cotton socks it does! This thrifty attitude is great for the planet -- if something has already been created, it's better to get as much use out of it as possible before more energy is used to recycle it into something else.

Clothing is one of the easiest and most fun things to reuse. Hand-me-downs get a bad rap, but when you call it vintage? Then it's cool! And "gently used" second-hand designer fashion which used to be a guilty secret is now being worn by celebrities and style-savvy women alike loud and proud - remember the gorgeous Valentino dress worn by Julia Roberts at the Oscars a couple of years ago? Its pre-loved/vintage!!

You soooo don’t have to become a tree hugger or hippie to lead the eco-friendly way of life. Being moms-cum-working girls-cum-fashionistas ourselves, we want to show everyone that it’s possible to go green without giving up great style and so we urge you to embrace the eco-fabulousness of T³ - we have a great selection of tightly-edited, pre-loved pieces at budget-friendly prices.

Shopping online @ T³ saves fuel, time, your tempers (no need to throw elbows and wait ages in long lines during sales) and reduces your carbon footprint  - did you know that each minute spent driving to the mall uses more than 10 times the energy of a minute spent shopping online?

The reality is this - reusing pre-loved and vintage things in everyday life make perfect economic and logical sense; it can save you wads of cash and is also environmentally friendly.  Saving money and the environment...what's not to love?

Going green isn't a fad ... it's fashionably responsible, and it's easy too! Stars like Cameron Diaz have proved that style and eco-awareness do not have to be mutually exclusive. Going green certainly did not cramp her style! We’ve put together some easy and inexpensive pieces for you to be as oh-so- eco-chic as Cameron. So go ahead, shop at T³ and play your part to save the planet. Delivery is free to anywhere in Peninsula Malaysia with purchases of RM50 or more.

As Ms. Diaz has clearly shown, sometimes all you need are great-fitting jeans and a white shirt to look super stylish! But true to her Cuban roots, she isn't afraid of color and often wears bright accessories with her outfits for added oomph.

p/s: look out for our Girlie Guide to Going Green (and more fabulous pieces!) in the coming installment!

Did you know that an average blog causes 3.6kg (8lb.) of carbon dioxide emissions, due primarily to the immense energy usage from (mainframe) computers, servers, and their cooling systems? Did you also know that the atmosphere can be relieved by an average of 5kg (11lb.) carbon dioxide every year by planting one tree.  Since a tree lives for an average of 50 years, carbon dioxide emissions of a blog can be completely neutralised for this time period.*

We at T³ are honoured to support and be a part of the “My blog is carbon neutral”  initiative by KaufDA, which aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and carbon footprints of blogs/websites by planting a tree for every participating blog/website. Through this noble programme, a tree will be planted for T³ in Plumas National Forest in Northern California, thereby reducing this blog's carbon footprint for the next 50 years.

Mother Earth will be so proud....

For us, the red carpet fashion at the Oscars is every bit as exciting as the ceremony itself because that's when all the beautiful dresses get to come out and play. Go ahead, admit it…like us, you too were tuned in to the live Oscar telecast yesterday and had enjoyed playing fashion critic, commenting on and discussing about "who wore what" as celebrities strutted down the red carpet. The star-studded award ceremony certainly did not disappoint even though our favourite Oscar style icons Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie were notable no-shows.

This year, dresses that were strapless, had fitted bodice and full skirt dominated the red carpet while shimmering neutrals seem to be the colors of choice . Jeweled details were also very popular, and in many cases eliminated the need for statement accessories.

Below is a round-up of our favourite looks from Hollywood’s biggest night – all winners in their own right:

Anna Kendrick (a Best Supporting Actress nominee for her role in Up in the Air) sashayed down the red carpet in a delicate pale pink off-shoulder Elie Saab Haute Couture gown and Judith Leiber clutch. The only aspect of her that we felt needed a bit of work, was her hair.

Another favourite of ours was Demi Moore, who, in her romantic blush Atelier Versace tiered gown, had us drooling. We all wanna be ageless like Demi!

Worth noting also was Queen Latifah, who proved that curvy can be sexy and she looked regal in a jewelled one-shouldered gown with a mermaid-style bottom by Badgley Mischka, simple updo and jewels by Chopard.

Finally, Carrie Mulligan looked absolutely ravishing in Prada and that gorgeous pixie hair! She goes for classic with a twist in her gown embellished with Swarovski crystals and (get this) tiny forks, knives, bolts and scissors! She gets our award as the best dressed for the evening. The Prada was classic but original, attention grabbing but subtle. We seriously heart this gown, despite her claims that she didn’t choose it to make a statement. Oh, and if you haven't seen her in An Education yet, the movie she was nominated Best Actress for, go and see it now. It’s fab!

Who were your Oscar favourites?

xoxo
