What really is this “global bazaar” look, you ask? It's an infusion of ethnic features like animal prints, floral splashes, camouflage and tribal patterns which come in many guises, shades and textures. What’s so great about this trend is that everything feels unique, one-of-a-kind and laden with character! It's definitely one for the chic, the quirky and the cool. It's sooo everywhere on the Spring/Summer 2010 runways – from Rodarte’s tribal warrior references, to Marc for Marc Jacobs’ African motifs to Gucci’s digitised ikat print.
But be forewarned, dear readers: This trend can get a little tricky, and can easily overwhelm. Worn head-to-toe or too literally, the striking prints and/or heavy embellishments are highly dramatic but probably too theatrical and costumey off the catwalk. One standout accent piece paired with a basic solid colour in a modern silhouette is all you really need to give your outfit a contemporary spin. The smaller the print, the smaller the frame appears to the untrained eye. Another important TaiTai tip: Please stick to one animal/tribal print at a time! The key is moderation!
